1997 Prelude S

The '97 Prelude interior. Includes 9K tachometer, full gauges, dual air bags. The stereo has a feedback system which utilizes a microphone in the rear speakers, which analyzes the sound for distortion and adjusts the sound accordingly. The HVAC system also received a makeover to cool the car faster inside. The key has a computer code on it that makes the car hard to steal.

The '97 Prelude came standard with 16" alloy rims and 205/50R16 tires. The headlights are dual stacked halogen bulbs, with small lamps that come on with the parking lights for an interesting effect. The spoiler on the back is standard on the SH (Super Handling) model.

The '97 Prelude came with a 195 HP 2.2L DOHC VTEC engine when ordered with a 5 speed stick. The automatics lose 5 hp with the Sportshift transmission (which has a bad reputation for 30K-60K failures, by the way). This transmission allows individual manual gear shifting or regular automatic driving. The SH model has an active transfer torque system (ATTS) which applies extra torque to the outside drive wheel as the car corners. This system can raise the outside wheel speed up to 15% and distribute up to 80% of the drive force to the outside wheel. This is accomplished by a dual clutch system, one for left and one for right cornering. 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, quarter mile in 15.4 seconds at 93.3 MPH.
