For anyone who may be looking to buy a '97-'00 F150, don't expect the posted gas mileage. It seems that a vast majority of owners don't get their mileage anywhere close to what the window sticker claims. Ours was rated at 17 and 22 mpg, but got a steady 14-16 (about 20 on highway trips). The Tornado and K&N air filter added about 1 mpg - cost $120 (well worth it for the acceleration, power and mileage).
PLEASE NOTE: We had a LOT of problems with our truck in 2.5 years time!!! We had to get new rear springs, clutch, water pump, wiper switch (common failure), fuel lines, wheel hub assembly, and much more for this truck. Thank goodness for warrantees, but be aware that these are NOT the most reliable or smooth running vehicles you can buy! There were 3 recalls on this truck, and the final thing that made us sell this truck was head gasket problems at a mere 22K miles!! Also, in stick shift models, beware of the problem with 2nd gear synchros.
