1996 Honda Civic DX Coupe
This was our '96 Silver Bullet. The 1996 Civic DX came with an aluminum alloy 1.6L 12 valve 4 cylinder engine. It has 106 HP and 103 ft.lb. of torque at 4600 RPM. The HX model increases the HP rating to 115 HP, and the EX jumps to a SOHC VTEC 127 HP engine. It comes standard with a 5 speed manual trans and rear stabilizer bar.

The EX and HX coupes add a front stabilizer bar, which comes highly recommended for increased handling. Standard 13" rims and tires are replaced by 14" in the '97 models, with 15" rims an option. Hubcaps and a decent sound system are now standard on the DX. No ABS on the base model DX. The car is rated at 33 to 38 MPG (39/45 for the HX coupe, and 30/36 for the EX coupe). No power steering on the DX.

The car was completely redesigned for 1996. The big headlights set it apart from other earlier model Civics. It has an fairly quiet ride with very little motor noise. It rides well, and is suprisingly roomy. Dual airbags are standard.
The '96 interior. There are 2 necessary options in this Honda: air conditioning and the factory CD player. Standard features include tilt steering, rear defrost, intermittent wipers, the flip-up cup holders, fold-down split rear seats, and dual vanity mirrors. There is actually room for 4. This car is a non-smoking car - no ashtray or lighter.
The original Silver Bullet: the 1982 Civic DX 1500 hatchback, Beth's first car. Standard features include rear defroster and little else. No power steering. This model actually had a stereo and a tachometer. Very stripped down, but so cool to drive! At 193,000 miles, it was very peppy and handled well (even though the suspension was beyond repair!).
