1987 Honda Civic CRX DX

It had 138K miles on it. It has so much room inside for being so small! It needed some work when we got it. We replaced the door speakers, valve cover gasket, window roller bearing, cooling fan, alternator, radiator, lubed the stuck shift linkage, and several minor items. We also polished up the car.
The car was then given to some new friends who needed a car. They passed it along to someone else a couple years later.
Some specs:
- 1.5L with carbeurated, 4 cylinder 12 valve SOHC engine
- 72 HP, 5 speed manual trans, 13" rims and BSW tires
- Rated 35MPG city, 39MPG highway
- No air conditioning, no power steering, adjustable intermittent wipers, digital clock
- Tachometer and rear defroster
- Red with gray plastic bottom and black interior
- Clarion cassette player
- 4" Pioneer speakers in doors
- Gray Seat covers
- Emergency brake. If it doesn't work right, you have to replace two $75 cables, plus rear calipers, rotors, and pads. EXPENSIVE!
- Automatic transmission. They just didn't last.
- Excessive rust around the gas tank door will prohibit it from opening eventually, and also rear wheel wells rust incredibly bad!
- Timing belt. Every 60K in this car, and they mean it. High compression engine. If the belt goes, so do the valves.
- Alternators are expensive repairs due to their location in the engine bay (bottom, back)
- Clicking in the front end during turns indicates bad CV joints and possibly the entire axle is bad.
- These cars weigh only about 1900 lbs. They have plastic front ends, fenders, and bumpers. With the SUVs on the road, I wonder about this car's crashworthiness?
