The 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX SE

This car was bought to make long commutes to work without running up the miles on the newer car.
It had 138K miles on it at purchase. Pulsars are 2 seaters with a flip-up rear seat. You won't use it for anything more than VERY small kids! It needed a good buffing when we got it, and an unsuspected $500 in brake work. We replaced the door speakers with 6.5" woofers, and we added Kenwood 6x9s in boxes in back.
We drove it a short while, but a friend really needed a car after losing a job (and his car died), so we sold it to him. This car got a consistent 30 mpg.
Some specs:

- T-TOPS (steel, not glass) and removable hatchback!

- Timing belt. Every 60K in this high compression engine. If the belt goes, so do the valves.
- Radiator. Every 7-8 years.
- Non-SE Pulsars. These had an anemic 70hp, and they didn't last near as long.
- Exhaust flex pipe under the engine. Expensive!
- Direct-fire ignition coils. Common failure points - 1 per cylinder.
- Rust along the seams on the bottom of the car is very common.
- T-top seals and door window seals, when bad, leak water into the interior. Check before you buy! Silicon treatment will help them stay pliable.
