2000 Saab 9-5 Aero
This is our family "hauler". Bought to replace the poorly aging and gas-guzzling Montero Sport, this car was a real change. This is our first Saab, something very different for us. We got a great deal on the car and thought we would try it. It's very smooth, very quick (0-60 in 6.5 seconds, 150mph capable), and quite luxurious.
It has a 2.3L I4 engine high pressure turbo engine (250 hp!), 4 speed auto trans, power everything, side impact air bags, premium sound with cassette and CD, heated front and rear leather, memory seating, etc.. The Aero is the highest performance Saab from 2000. The car also came with some nice modifications!
Things modified on our car:
- 18" ASA rims with Yokohama tires
- Modified air intake with K&N cone
- Slotted front brake rotors
- Green Stuff brake pads
Things to be aware of on these Saabs:
- There is an extended engine warranty on these cars due to a sludge problem affecting about 4% of production vehicles
- PCV system is deficient - deteriorating hoses cause throttle body problems (requiring costly replacement)
- These cars require premium fuel and synthetic engine oil! Not cheap to run!
- Insurance on these cars is very good due to the safety rating.
